Carbondale has always been Eric’s hometown. He attended Carbondale schools and graduated from Roaring Fork High School in 2004.
Garfield Planning & Zoning Commission
Eric has served on Garfield County’s Planning and Zoning Commission since 2013. As a recommending body to the Board of County Commissioners, the Commission plays a critical role in shaping land-use policy and growth decisions. During Eric’s tenure, he has helped guide the review of complex applications affecting the social, environmental, and economic future of Garfield County. He has also played an active role in land-use code amendments and Comprehensive Plan updates, balancing community input, regulatory requirements, and long-term impacts.
Work Life
Eric’s parents’ construction company has been a significant part of his life. After college, he returned to work for the company full time. His responsibilities spanned laborer, equipment operator, junior carpenter, IT support, and project management—often all in the same day. Today, Eric works alongside his father at the family’s development company.
Computers for Kids (C4K)
In high school, Eric was a proud nerd—a trait that led him to volunteer with the Computers for Kids Foundation. The organization’s mission was to provide computers to children who could not otherwise afford them. Eric and his friends repaired and refurbished donated computers into standardized systems for distribution to local kids. Under the leadership of Bob Elmore and Bob Rankin—later a Colorado State Senator—Eric learned the importance of service, responsibility, and accountability. Their example left a lasting impact on him.
Mt. Sopris Rec Riders
In 2010, Eric began volunteering with the Mt. Sopris Rec Riders Association, which maintains more than 120 miles of winter trail systems. He started as Trails and Grooming Chairman and was later selected to serve as President. Because the multi-use trail system operates entirely on public lands, Eric worked extensively with state and federal agencies on operations, permitting, and regulatory coordination to keep the system functioning and compliant.
Agriculture
The agricultural community has always been central to Eric’s life. His early childhood was spent on a working ranch owned by the Cerise family—now the site of the Polo Fields—where his parents rented a home. That upbringing instilled a lasting respect for working the land, caring for livestock, and the people who make their living from it. Today, Eric raises cattle of his own and regularly works alongside local ranchers, helping with livestock management and land stewardship.
